Oct, 17, 2012 – San Diego – The eNovance team
Introduction
What’s better can happen for an OpenStack Developper to go at bi-annual OpenStack Summit ? OpenStack Summit brings more than 1500 people together with the goal to prepare the next release of OpenStack : Grizzly. Since Openstack now has its own fondation, the community continue to grow every day.
eNovance at the Summit
How to build OpenStack Clouds without going at the Summit ? That’s the best way to meet new people and also discover what’s going on with the future of OpenStack. And that’s we are doing ! Engineers from eNovance gain from Summit to understand and contribute at the new features that we will see in OpenStack very soon. We contribute at several OpenStack projects like Ceilometer, Quantum, Manuals, and also Debian Packaging.
Ceilometer Sessions
Ceilometer aims to provide metering in OpenStack. Since the first version of the project has been released last week (0.1 version), Ceilometer has been the topic of many session at Summit.
If you are interested to read the notes taken during the sessions, you can read the etherpads here.
eNovance initiated the project with canonical during the previous summit. To further this effort, eNovance / Cloudwatt announced that it will implement a poller for Swift (Object storage). The fact that ceilometer should cope with multi-cell design in nova is raised and a discussion to resolve this is scheduled during the next sessions.
Quantum Sessions
We were looking forward to seeing Quantum as a core project in OpenStack, and that what we had in Folsom. It seems that most of the next big deployments will run Quantum into production but some features need to be improved :
- Promote extensions into core : L3 features & provider networks.
- CLI & client library.
- Integration with Ceilometer.
- Improve the namespaces support, with Floating IPs & Security Groups.
- L3 Managment from dashboard.
- More testing with Tempest
If you are interested to read the notes taken during the sessions, you can read the etherpads here.
This Summit is also a great opportunity to meet Networking companies like Nicira / VMware, Midokura, or Cisco. They provide a plugin which help deploy a full SDN stack in your Cloud. We are still waiting for announcements if some companies are going to release their code since they could be a real challenger for the actual leader (Nicira).
A big news for eNovance
Tomorrow, we will continue to talk about the sessions, and open the discussion with new announcements.
